The purpose of the Research Associate position is to provide assistance to Research Fellows/Junior Research Fellows by collecting data, keeping records, conducting literature and technical research, drafting manuscripts, analysing data and preparing reports, and representing CIPIT in webinars, roundtable talks, workshops and conferences (both virtual and in-person events) in accordance with the University strategy, policy and procedures, and the funder requirements.
What you will do
Assist with data collection via interviews with relevant parties as well as secondary data collection via desktop research.
Assist with academic research, editing and preparation of manuscripts, and duties related to the production of project reports.
Assist in organising project related events including but not limited to workshops and report launches, publication, and communication of research reports.
Participate and contribute to JIPIT activities, including calls, peer review processes, and other editorial activities.
Contribute to the CIPIT Blog and Podcast on a regular basis.
Attending, and presenting at conferences and workshops on behalf of CIPIT.
Other duties as may be assigned by the director.
What you bring
Educational Qualifications
Minimum of a bachelor's degree in law, Computer Science or a relevant Social Science.
Completion of Postgraduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law is an added advantage.
Relevant coursework or certifications in IP law or AI is valuable.
Experience & Skills
1-3 years of relevant experience in research with a focus in Data Policies or artificial intelligence issues.
Knowledge in AI and IT such as familiarity with the different AI applications in various sectors, and data protection laws (GDPR, CCPA) and their relevance to AI development.
Ability to write clear, concise reports, articles, or papers for academic or legal audiences.
Ability to present research findings and strategies to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, track deadlines, and collaborate with teams across departments.
