An advanced university degree (Master's or PhD) in Law, Environmental Policy, International Development, Public Administration, International Relations, or a closely related field. A specialisation in Environmental Law or Chemicals Management is highly desirable.
A minimum of 7 to 10 years of progressively responsible experience in policy development, legal reform or environmental governance.
A proven track record of working with Kenyan government institutions (specifically NEMA, KEBS or KRA) to draft or implement legislation.
Demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement, particularly mediating between government regulators and private sector industry players.
Specific experience (desirable): the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions; the automotive sector (import regulations, manufacturing standards or end-of-life vehicle management); and circular economy policy frameworks.
A deep understanding of Kenya's devolved system of government and how environmental policy is implemented at national and county levels.
Knowledge of customs procedures and import control mechanisms in East Africa, and familiarity with hazardous waste management and trans-boundary movement rules.
Strong analytical thinking, negotiation and diplomacy, and excellent legal drafting and verbal communication skills.
Fluency in English (written and spoken) is mandatory; knowledge of Kiswahili is highly desirable.
